Simple Math for Pork Lovers

by porktastic on July 10, 2009

The answer must be pork

Now remember, we’re pork lovers and not mathematicians.  So, please, follow our logic and cut us some slack.  Further, we ask that you don’t trump us with your keen sense of algebra and algorithms. It’ll just confuse us.

So put your hands down class and follow along:

  • According to the most up-to-date U.S. Census figures, there are roughly 306 million people in the United States.
  • Surprisingly, some of those folks abstain from eating meat, including pork.
  • In technical terms, that means there are few hundred million people who are amenable to putting pork on the plate in the form of bacon, ham, sausage, roasts, and chops – basically any of the delicious cuts of pork available.
  • Most people eat three times a day.  Well, a bunch do.  Maybe some only eat twice.  Okay we don’t know how often people eat, we just know they eat when they are hungry…or bored…or watching TV…or raging with a great white heat.  And who skips a meal anyway, when there’s good hearty pork available for every hour and every occasion?
  • We’ll admit that we’re grazers, so we’ll need to inflate that number to a conservative five or six a day. Okay, maybe seven.

Here’s how we see it:

300 million Americans

x 3 square meals a day, all fit for pork

x (2 to 4) snacks or mini meals

___________________________

Somewhere in the neighborhood of 1.8 billion opportunities for possible pork consumption each and every day.

Perhaps this is why we have pork on the brain all the time.

Did we mention that we have some dandy recipes here at Porktastic?

Pulled pork sandwiches.  Grilled kebabs.  Just click “Mmm…” for these and other recipes.

That concludes our Porktastic math lesson.  You’re now free to pig out.
