Celebrity cook Paula Deen has heard enough of the myths and misinformation surrounding the safety of pork since the H1N1 flu virus was detected in Mexico recently (PR Newswire, 5/7/09).

“There’s a lot of people that’s been affected by this,” Deen said. “It also affects our pork farmers, our truck drivers, our grocery stores. It affects the whole economy.”
How much you ask?
As of May 1, U.S. hog farmers had lost $17.69 on each hog marketed. For the April 24 through May 1 period, total losses reached $7.2 million a day. (Ouch!)
